Aileen Dolores Roberts (nee Janow), age 89, passed away in her sleep on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 in Elyria, Ohio. Born August 31, 1936, in Spring City, Tennessee, Dolores was a resident of Elyria for 70 years where she was always blessed with helpful and caring neighbors.
She was a graduate of Spring City High School where she gained friends that she enjoyed for the rest of her life despite moving to Ohio. She was married for 65 years to the love of her life, Ronald ‘Frank’ Roberts. Together, they enjoyed traveling across the states and spending winters in Florida. They made many happy memories with special friends there feeding the turtles in the pond and avoiding the rare visiting alligator.
Dolores was a huge fan of the Elyria Public Library and an avid reader. She was a fun, feisty, and proud ‘Southern Gal’ but could be heard loudly cheering for the OSU Buckeyes, Cleveland Cavaliers, and the Cleveland Browns from her living room. Her children all knew it was best not to call or visit her when her favorite shows, Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune, were on! Dolores also had a gift for finding the best deals at yard sales and enjoyed shopping in general. She had a flair for bright colors in flowers, fashion, and decor.
She worked outside the home during her children’s “college tuition years” including as a night desk clerk for the Oberlin Inn. Her main “career focus”, however, was getting her children raised, churched, and schooled. She worked tirelessly to support their endeavors and “boost” all their extra-curricular activities. With the arrival of her grandchildren, Dolores was promoted to “Mimi” and she truly excelled at loving on them. Mimi delighted in the arrival of each of her great grandchildren although she didn’t get to see them as much due to distance and schedules. Her family could not have asked for a more devoted or giving “Mimi”. They are better people because of the faith and values she instilled in them.
Dolores was preceded in death by her dedicated husband, Ronald ‘Frank’ Roberts in 2020; her parents, Tye and Beulah Mae Janow (Boles) and her siblings, Tye Jr., Harold, and Carol.
She is survived by her sister, Virginia Smith (Janow) of Spring City, Tennessee, her children, Donna Shaffer (John) of Elyria, Pamela Haddad (Raja) of Auburn, California, and John ‘Pat” Roberts (Ellen) of Wakeman, Ohio ; grandchildren, Sarah Shaffer of Seattle, Washington, Kyle Shaffer of Cleveland, Ohio, Torrey Riddle (Drew) of Loma Linda, California, Tasha Haddad of Kelowna BC, Canada, Benjamin Roberts (Jessica) of Vermilion, Ohio, and Mark Roberts (Seleste) of Amherst, Ohio, and great-grandchildren, Quinton Riddle, Adelai Roberts, Gwenivere Riddle, Violet Aileen Roberts, Noah Roberts, Caspian Riddle, Roslynn Roberts, and Milo Haddad-Scott.
A Service will be held in the Brookdale Cemetery Chapel on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at 1:00 p.m.at 41600 Oberlin-Elyria Road in Elyria, Ohio.
