Arthur J. Strother, 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at home in Lorain, Ohio. He was born on September 19, 1936, in Elyria, Ohio to George Arthur and Marjorie Robin (nee Scott) Strother.
After graduating from Elyria High School in 1954, Arthur joined the Army and proudly served his country with distinction. While working as a second-generation firefighter, he earned his Associates Degree in Applied Science. He retired from the Elyria Fire Department with the rank of Captain.
While going to school and working, he met and fell in love with Laurene Ruth (nee Kelner) and they married in 1960 and had three children. His many hobbies included baseball, fishing and completing a carpentry project with precision. He left a legacy of love for his family, his country and doing the job right with attention to detail.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Marjorie Strother.
Arthur is survived by his wife, Laurene Ruth Strother; his children, Dawn Litchfield, Kyle (Christine) Strother and Brion (Colleen) Strother; grandchildren, Sarah, Zackary and Calypso and great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation or the Firefighters Charitable Foundation.
Interment will be at a later date with Military Honors at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
