Carolyn A. Forthofer (nee Smitek) 92 of Elyria was born on May 28, 1932 and passed away on November 8, 2024. She graduated from North Ridgeville High School Class of 1950 where she was a majorette. She married John Paul Pope of Elyria and worked as a Hostess/Waitress at Stouffers in Fairview Park for many years and finished her working days as a Toll Collector on the Ohio Turnpike. Carolyn’s proudest accomplishment was raising her five sons especially after her husband died when the oldest was 15 and the youngest 2. Years later she married Jerome Forthofer.
Carolyn is survived by her sons, Timothy (Amy Lee), Paul, Dan (Anita), and John (Julie); stepsons, James (Susan) and Ted Forthofer (Debbie); 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, John Pope and Jerome Forthofer; her son, Thomas Pope; and her siblings, Veronica Diewald, Margaret Smith, Helen Mahl, Agnes Staveski, John Smitek, James Smitek, Frank Smitek, George Smitek, and Edward Smitek.
Visitation will be held at St. Mary Church 320 Middle Ave., Elyria on Tuesday, November 12 from Noon until 1pm at which time the Mass of Christian Burial will begin. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Avon, Ohio.
