Ernest J. Janik passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born January 12, 1924 in Elyria, Ohio to parents Marton Janik and Gizella Janik (nee Hoszuretti). He graduated from Clearview High School in 1942, and enlisted in the Army shortly thereafter. He was stationed in Rhineland in Central Europe, and was awarded a Bronze Star and a World War II Victory Medal, among many other citations. He was proud to be a part of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge, Rainbow Division Veterans Association and the 242nd Regimental Chapter. He was a faithful member of Holy Name Society and St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, and a founding member of. After returning home, he met Elizabeth Kinder, and they married on June 28, 1947 and had three children. He then went to work at U.S. Steel in the Engineering Department as an Estimator and retired after 40 years of employment.
Ernest is survived by his daughter, Susan Winton and granddaughter, Joylyn Winton. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elizabeth; sons, Ernest W. Janik and Gregory P. Janik; siblings, Stella Boris, Mary Betzel, Anna Dice, Steven Janik, Albert Janik and Dorothy Super.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be forwarded to the Gary Sinese Foundation and Wounded Warrior Project.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, 41295 N. Ridge Road, Elyria, followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m., which will be officiated by Father Neal Walters. Immediately following will be a graveside service at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, Ohio at 12:15 p.m.
