Jo Anne Pollock

March 5, 1941 — October 2, 2023

Mooresville, NC

Jo Anne Pollock passed away peacefully on October 2, 2023 in Mooresville, North Carolina surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on March 5, 1941 to Leo Wilson Dunlevy and Doris Jennie Dunlevy (nee Bates) in Coshocton, Ohio.  She spent most of her formative years living on a beautiful farm with her parents and three sisters.

Jo Anne graduated from West Lafayette High School in 1959, then went on to Wilmington College, earning a bachelor’s degree in English with minors in history and psychology.  She was a member of the Alpha Phi Kappa sorority.  After graduation, Jo Anne taught high school English for several years before retiring to become a full-time mother in 1968.

Jo Anne married John Albert Pollock on December 27, 1965 in West Lafayette, Ohio. Jo Anne and John lived in Arizona and Missouri early in their marriage. In 1974, John and Jo Anne returned to Ohio to rear their children near their families. John and Jo Anne joined Elyria First United Methodist Church and remained members throughout their lives. Jo Anne’s beloved husband John passed away on August 3rd, 1993. Jo Anne did an amazing job caring for her children over the next 30 years.

Jo Anne loved her three grandchildren very much.  She enjoyed reading to, and playing with them when they were young.  And she loved watching them as they grew into young adults.

Jo Anne will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandma, daughter, sister and friend. She shared her love of books with her friends, family and the workers of the Elyria Public Library.  She also enjoyed traveling with her family to campsites, beaches, national parks and historic landmarks in America and Europe. While living in Elyria, Jo Anne loved watching the sunsets over Lake Erie with her dear friend Joyce. Jo Anne was also an avid fan of movies and music.  Although her taste in music was wide-ranging, her favorite music was classic rock of the 1960s and 1970s.  She was often seen wearing her concert t-shirts proudly around her retirement home.

Remaining to cherish Jo Anne’s memory are her favorite eldest daughter, Tracy Simmons (Matt), her favorite son, Matt Pollock (Christina), her favorite youngest daughter, Rebecca Boone (Caleb); grandchildren Jacob, Lauren and Kate Pollock; sisters Karen Elpiner (Phil), Andrea Cramer (Jeff) and Linda Mannasmith (Gary); and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Jo Anne in death are spouse, John Albert Pollock; parents, Leo and Doris Dunlevy; and grandnephews Owen and Josiah Marx.
